Hunter Brown, 1 of Astros’ top prospects, debuts for Houston against Texas Rangers on Monday!

Sugarland, Texas (KTRK) – It’s hunting season in Houston.

1 potential Astros player, right-handed bowler Hunter Brown, officially became the league’s leading player when he made his MLB debut on Monday night against the Texas Rangers.

The 24-year-old throws first pitch inside Minute Maid Park at 7:10 p.m.

How do the Astros plan to use Braun?

Brown’s path to the show looked like a star-aligned kind of situation for the Detroit native. The Astros’ previous fifth-round pick dominated the majority of his appearances with Triple-A’s Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

Brown set a 9-4 record in 13 games and made 23 appearances this season. He is among the Pacific Coast League’s top four players in the earned mid-range category with a 2.55 ERA.

Monday’s start not only serves as a major league baptism for Brown. Manager Dusty Becker wants to take a closer look at the club’s final month of the season, especially as rookie Justin Verlander recovers from his calf injury, in order to see how Brown can fit into Houston’s post-season plans.

Brown could at least be ruled out of the playoffs but he makes the 2023 roster.

Brown might also take a glimpse of relief while being summoned from the palace. He scored one save for Sugar Land this season.

Brown’s Summon Story

Having dominated Triple-A this season, Brown was added to the Astros’ big league roster last Thursday afternoon, just days after his 24th birthday.

“When I got the phone call and was able to deliver the news, it was exciting,” said Mickey Storey, Director of Sugar Land. “Hunter Brown is one of the nicest ball players I’ve ever managed, and one of the most humble. But then, when he takes the hill, one of the most competitive, fiercest, and most controlling players ever is close to here.”

Brown can throw 99 miles per hour.

“He’s very mature, very rooted,” Storey said. “You never read too much. I have great faith in the young man. I think he will have a tremendous career, and I think he will help this football club in the long run.”

In a twist, Brown’s baseball idol is bowler Justin Verlander, who is now Astros teammate.
